PostMortem : Ring Bonney's adventure
Ring Bonney's Treasure » Devlog
I've done this game for the Trijam#105:Islands. It was my fourth time participating to this jam ! Once again I completly past the scheduled time (9h of developpment VS the 3 hours of the jam; I voluntarily exclude the 3 hours of game design as it's not supposed to be taken into account), BUT I did it on purpose as I found the idea of manipulating a card to find a treasure quite fun. I really wanted to polish it a bit from A to Z.
I'm rather happy with the result.
What I learned
- Basics of Gdevelop (Visual programming with blocks)
- I didn't learn much about new things but I put again in practice what I previously learned
- Writing, designing beforehand with pen and paper is super effective and quite fun. It's a pleasure to see the prototype matching the design document. I also had the opportunity to write code on paper
- I had trouble when trying to export the game as HTML5 : mousewheel didn't work and sound neither. So prototyping soon and publish a draft version of the game on itchio may be a good idea
What I liked
- The polish of the game (at least at my level)
- Pirate sounds, oh yeeeah
- Manipulating the map is quite fun
What I could improve on this game
- I could work more on the gameplay/level and more precisely the difficulty curve (which is a bit abrupt according the feedbacks)
- Maybe clean/factorize some code with Gdevelop Behaviors
What I want for my next games
- Try to developp a game more gameplay oriented
- Being able to release a game in only 3 hours
- Try procedural generation of Gdevelop
- Try to customize a bit the landing page of the game on Itchio
